In the first period, St. Amand opened the scoring for the Islanders with a goal at 17:41 with helpers from his linemates, Lima and Kervinen. Caplan quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 18:35 with helpers from his linemates, Huss and Therrien.
In the second, Purdue netted a goal at 5:31 with assists from his linemates, Caplan and Conway.
In the third, Caplan scored a goal at 6:53 with assists from his linemates, Lima and Huss. Wellmeyer finally put the Sharks on the board with a goal at 9:35 with helpers from his linemates, Smith and Bergman. Conway answered for Cape Cod with a goal at 13:51 with assists from his linemates, Therrien and Smith.
The Islanders’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Bird’s big night as he stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Bird’s counterpart, Cortez, also had a big night, managing to stop 39 of 44, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Cape Cod Islanders’ record to (3-4-0-0).
