Cam St. Amand scored the game winning goal late in the game as the Cape Cod Islanders defeat the the Maine Wild 7-6 in a home game at Falmouth Ice Arena in Cape Cod. As well, the Cape Cod Islanders' offense had a big night, peppering Maine with 33 shots throughout the game.
Cam St. Amand delivered for his team with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Matthew Hinckley did his part, adding 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). Brady Bannon chipped in with 2 goals and Jeffrey Gratz contributed with 2 goals.
In the first, Constable opened the scoring for the Islanders with a goal at 5:46 with helpers from his linemates, Jefferys and Doyon. Gratz answered for Maine with a goal at 9:57 with an assist from fellow Wild forward Webb. Dorman put in a goal at 13:52 with helpers from his linemates, Shestakov and Ledbetter.
In the second, Doyon answered for Cape Cod with a goal at 3:52 with assists from teammates Hinckley and Therrien. Therrien deposited a goal at 5:56 with helpers from Marston and St. Amand. Hinckley put in a goal at 10:19. Bannon quickly followed with a goal at 10:49.
In the third period, Mehall scored a goal at 5:01 with an assist from Shestakov. Bannon quickly followed with a goal at 6:44. Therrien answered for Cape Cod with a goal at 9:09 with helpers from Conway and Dougherty. St. Amand netted a goal at 11:29 with assists from his linemates, Doyon and Therrien. Gratz answered for the Wild with a goal at 16:30 with a helper from Webb. St. Amand answered for the Islanders with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 19:34 with assists from Therrien and Hinckley.
Cape Cod’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Maki as he stopped 20 of the 26 shots he faced. Maki’s counterpart, Jenkins, also had a big night, managing to stop 23 of 27, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Cape Cod Islanders’ record to (1-2-0-0).
