The Cape Cod Islanders close out the 2014 half of their schedule this weekend when they play a home and home series with the Maine Wild. Friday night they play at Tony Kent Arena in Dennis at 7:10 pm and Saturday they will travel to Biddeford, Maine to finish off the weekend series. The Islanders, 11-9-2 24 points, currently sit in third place of the Eastern Division of the NA3EHLand the Wild, 6-14-1 13 points currently in fourth place have played three times this season. Cape Cod has won all three games, coach Dan Hodge knows that the past is the past and these two games are the biggest of the season. "We need to be focused to play a full sixty minutes of hockey both games. We have been very fortunate in the games that we played the Wild. They are a team that is on the rise and we need to be prepared."
The Islanders will need their leaders to step up and play a great in the two contests. Cape Cod is paced by Charles Antoine Malenfant with 12 goals and 8 assists, Jordy Knoren 5-15-20 and Colton Hart 4-16-20. On the backend the Isaac Bosse looks to continue his solid play and offensive prowess. "These guys have been very good so far, Bosse is a great skating d man who can go end to end at any time, Malenfant, Knoren and Hart are on our top lines and they need to push their linemates to be the best this weekend."
The Islanders, as a team, have been very solid this season, it's have a more balanced attack than in the past couple of seasons. The team has three power play units and each unit can score on the man advantge. The penalty kill has been a real bright spot this season and currently sits as the second best in the entire league at 90.11%. In net they have three goalies that would be a top guy on any team in the league. Kevin Belanger and Patrick Spaulding are both in the top 10 in the league. Brent Petrowski has only played one game so far due to injury, but that one was a shutout against the Wild.
"We need to close out this half of the schedule on a high note. The Wild want the same thing we do, they want the four points, we need to be prepared for a tough battle this weekend."
