The Cape Cod Islanders won a tough game to advance to the divisional finals on Saturday against the New England Stars in Tyngboro.
The win by Cape Cod clinched the best of three series at 2-0.
Cape Cod was led by goalie Patrick Spaulding, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Spaulding will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 after the contest.
Cape Cod was paced by Hutton, who finished with one goal, and Jordy Knoren who got the visitors on the board with a power play goal in the second period. More assists for Cape Cod came via Isaac Bosse, who had one.
In addition, New England received assists from Brendan Miller, who had one.
Cape Cod incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Dane Pauls made 16 saves for New England on 18 shots. New England incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
"This was a great series against the Stars. That team has historically been our biggest rivals and every game is always intense and hard fought."
The Islanders now face off against the Eastern Division champion New Hampshire Fighting Spirit in the second round, who won a tough series against the Maine Wild two games to one. The winner of this series will advance to the NA3EHL Championship and face off against the winner of the Jersey Shore Wildcats and Wilkes Barre Miners Western Division Championship series.
"The Spirit has been the best team in the league for the past four seasons. They are very well coached by Rod Simmons and his staff. We know this will be a tough series and we will have to minimize our mistakes, this is a team that will capitalize on the smallest miscue. We will have to play our best game of the season Wednesday night and be focused until the final buzzer sounds." coach Hodge said
