Cape Cod Islanders head coach, Jay Punsky is a happy to announce the signing of defenseman Jake Davis. Davis, who stands 6 foot and 5 inches tall and tips the scales at 240 pounds, played for the Bourne Canalmen and the Bay State Breakers last season and was the teammate of Mitch Eldridge who has also signed with the Islanders.
The Islanders are looking to rebuild their backend many of last season's defensemen has moved on to other opportunities. "Building the blueline around a player the size of Jake Davis, who knows how to use his size to his advantage, will have opponents second guessing carrying the puck over the blueline." Punsky said "He is a physical defenseman who really uses his reach and can close off opponents quickly, he has a great attitude and has a blue collar mentality."
The signing of Davis along with Zack Goodman and Joe Brennan give the Islanders a great foundation for a d corps. Coach Punsky expects Davis to come in and be a leader from day one. "Jake's physical attributes will make him a guy his teammates will look up to" Punsky joked "but his work ethic and compete level will make him a player they follow."
