Islanders Head into NA3EHL Playoffs with 4 Straight Wins

The Cape Cod Islanders finished off the 2014-15 regular season with a flurry of hockey this past week, playing four games in five days. For the second time in two weeks Cape Cod was playing four games in a week. The Isles won all four games including three against the East Coast Minutemen and an emotional 2-1 win in overtime over their first round playoff opponent the New England Stars.

The week started with a 9-2 win over the East Coast Minutemen on Wednesday.  The game featured some great goaltending by Islander goaltender Brent Petreowski.  Defensman, JC Moritz netted a hat trick and Andrey Stankevich added two goals to pace the offense.

On Friday night the same two teams faced off and it was all Cape Cod from the drop of the puck.  The home team scored six goals in the opening period and never looked back en route to a 10-1 victory.  The Isles were lead in scoring by Casey Zawojski who scored two goals and Chris Harris who was credited with a team record seven assists.

Saturday night the team traveled to Salem, New Hampshire to take on the Minutemen for the third time in four days.  Kevin Belanger stood tall in net stopping all 22 shots faced in the 2-0 shutout.  Colton Hart and Colton Hutton scored goals for the visitors.  The win coupled with the Maine Wild losing ensured the Islanders would be in sole posession of third place and they would face the New England Stars in round 1 of the NA3EHL playoffs.

No rest for the weary was the mantra on Sunday at noon, when the team pulled into Skate 3 in Tyngsboro to face the New England Stars at noon.  The Islanders turned to Brent Petrowski who was efficient in backstopping the road team to a 2-1 overtime win.  Colton Hart again provoded the offense scoring one goal in regulation and the OT winner with only 14 seconds in the extra frame.

"We certainly have had a busy couple of weeks, but these past five days were huge for us." coach Hodge said  "We needed to get on a roll heading into playoffs and four wins in a row will help.  The three games with East Coast were tests of our team discipline.  Yesterday's game with the Stars was a snapshot of what our playoff series will be like.  I am anticipating all the games to be tightly contested and to be decided by one goal."
