The Cape Cod Islanders inched closer to taking their first Eastern Division title with two wins over the weekend. The Islanders took a 5-3 win on Friday against the Northeast Generals, a game that saw Generals goalie Trevor Trudeau face 56 shots.
Following the game the Islanders headed to Stockholm New Jersey where they faced off against their likely first round playoff opponnet Skylands Kings. The host team was less than hospitable as they outshot, outworked and outscored their guests. Forward Aaron Deady provided the offensive spark with a hat trick but that wasn't enough as the Kings defeated the Islanders 9-6.
On Sunday, the Islanders rebounded with a more focused effort as they lead the whole game en route to a 5-3 victory. Brendan Sullivan got the team rolling with his deflection of an Eric Szeker wrist shot on the power play in the first period. The Islanders outshot the Kings 45-26 in the contest that saw emotions heat up towards the end of the game.
One thing was made certain this weekend, if the Islanders and Kings do hook up in the first round, it will be a great series that will feature playoff hockey at it's finest.
