Cape Cod Islanders head coach, Dan Hodge shook up his lines this past week in a search for a more balnced attack. The team responded with a four goal shutout win friday night versus the Maine Wild in Biddeford, Maine. The Islanders got goals from three different lines and one on the power play.
Charles Malenfant opened the scoring in the first period when he collected a pass from Chris Harris and ripped a shot over the glove of the Wild goaltender. Malenfant's goal would prove to be the game winner as Brent Petrowski, seeing his first action of the season after suffering a broken hand, stopped all 27 shots the Wild through at him.
James Brosnan scored the Isles second goal off a great individual effort as he out muscled 3 defenders and ripped a backhand five hole for a 2-0 lead. Vasiliy Mironov scored early in the second period as he collected a puck from JS Dufort. Frank Oakley completed the scoring for Cape Cod on the power play as he was fed a nifty backdoor pass from Christian Holmes and he one timed the puck in the back of the net. Neither team scored in the third, the closest the Wild came was a backdoor open net that Petrowski extended across the crease to deny to preserve the shoutout.
"I was very pleased with how balanced our attack was friday night. We got production out of every line and Petrowski was outstanding between the pipes for us. He made all the routine saves and a few he had no business stopping. Brent's a competitor and I am excited to see our goaltending moving forward now that all three are healthy."
The Islanders are now off until after the Thanksgiving holiday. Thier next games are December 5 & 6 when they head to Morrisville, NY to take on the Syracuse Stampede. The Islanders last home game of the calendar year is December 12 at 7:10 pm in Dennis.
We would like to take this chance to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday #GOISLES
