The Cape Cod Islanders are pleased to announce the resigning of goaltender Anton Zemba. Zemba was the top goalie in the league last season with a 15-5-1 record and a .929 save % while carrying a 2.39 goals against average in 22 games. A late season injury sidelined him just before playoffs but his big game presence will put the Islanders in a great position to repeat as the Coastal Division champions.
"We are extremely pleased that Anton will back in the net for us next season." coach Jay Punsky said "His presence was huge last season and we certainly missed him in net in the finals. If Zemba was able to play versus Jersey Shore we probably would have seen a different outcome."
The North Smithfield, Rhode Island native saw action in the opening round of the playoffs against the Skylands Kings and won 7-2 stopping 31 of 33 shots. But the injury he suffered the last month of the season kept him out of the net the rest of the way. "I'm extremely excited to be back with the Islanders. I am looking forward to building on the success that we had last season. We have some key components returning, along with the new guys signed we will be a really good team again. I am excited for September."
The Cape Cod Islanders made a tradt this past week. The Islanders traded the playing rights of goaltender Steven Schmitt to Binghamton for cash considerations. "Steve had requested a trade to a team in the Northeast Division in order to be closer to his girlfriend and their child. We wish him and his new family well."
